About Big Jeff
Born in the Bronx, NY, Big Jeff moved with his family to Queens and became a fan of hip hop at an early age. By the time he was a teenager, Friday nights were spent listening to DJ Red Alert and Mr. Magic. He began attending hip hop shows and park jams. Hip hop was more than a hobby, it became his lifestyle.
In 1994 he joined Zulu Nation and quickly began booking artists. He booked artists such as Whodini, Nice n Smooth, Keith Murray, The Beat Nuts and Black Sheep for both the Zulu Nation and the Rock Steady anniversaries, a tradition that he continued for 20 years.
It was clear to artists and fans alike that Jeff promoted for the love of hip hop and he formed many meaningful friendships and connections. Jeff’s love and admiration for hip hop artists, especially the pioneers, led to many achievements including a pioneer dinner he organized in 2001 that included over 20 legendary artists. Jeff assisted Russell Simmons with the creation and production of the Hip Hop Summit at the Sheraton Hotel.
Jeff continued promoting hip hop events and in 2004 he put together a show at SOBs with performances by KRS-One, Jungle Brothers, Soul Sonic Force, Red Alert and more. He also threw birthday parties all over New York City at clubs like Sutra Lounge for celebrities and artists such as Slick Rick, Ice-T, Annabella Sciorra and Mele Mel.
Between 2005 and 2008, Jeff booked over 20 Hip Hop acts at Plumm.
Since 2008, Jeff has hosted Toca Tuesday’s with his partner in crime DJ Tony Touch. During that time, he was responsible for bringing hundreds of artists through to deejay, perform and just hang out.
Between 2009 and 2012 Jeff booked artists including DMC, Rakim, Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick to perform at Sutra Lounge, BB Kings, SOBs and threw birthday parties for Kool Herc and Mele Mel highlighted with performances by DJ Premier, Scratch, Just Blaze, Evil Dee, The Roots, DJ Jazzy Jay and many more.
Jeff hosted parties and events for likes of the legendary Jam Master Jay and other countless hip hop artists such as Big Pun, MOP, Jungle Brothers, X Clan, Red Alert.
By 2017, Jeff was not only booking artists for hip hop events, but he also began associate producing films. He was instrumental in getting multiple movie roles for artists such as Ice T and Mele Mel.
In 2019, Jeff joined Hip Hop Blvd and became affiliated with the Hip Hop museum.
In 2020, Jeff continued his work on film and worked with artists such as Rosie Perez, DMC, Treach and Chuck Dee shooting videos honoring essential workers for a documentary.
Jeff looks forward to continuing to expand his love of hip hop through booking associated artists and promoting major events.
